Event Reminders for This Week

 

Dear Families and Friends,

 

Please see below for reminders of some important upcoming events in our community.

 

  • Paths to University Success Workshop @ The Emerald – Tomorrow, Thursday, May 4 is our second event in a series of university workshops that all parents are invited to attend. This week’s topic is: A Guide to Paying for University. Join us from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Emerald Club Restaurant. Please see the attached poster for more details or email mkelly@scis-china.org to RSVP.
  • Open Houses: We will be holding a series of Open Houses in the month of May, if have any friends that may be considering enrollment at SCIS, we encourage you to pass the details of these events along to them.
    • May 6 – Korean Family Open House - 9:30am
    • May 9 – Spring Open House – Morning Session – 9:30am
    • May 12- Spring Open House – Afternoon Session – 5:00pm
  • Grade 5 PYP Exhibition: This Friday, our Grade 5 students invite you to their PYP Exhibition from 1:00pm-2:30pm in the Black Box Theater. Students have been hard at work over the last few weeks preparing to showcase the results of their in-depth collaborative inquiry in to real life issues and problems.
  • Middle School Transition – Parent Information Session: Before the exhibition, Grade 5 parents are invited to a Middle School Transition information session presented by our Upper School Principal. Learn more about your child’s transition in to the Middle Years Programme.

Dear Families and Friends,

 

Please see below for details upcoming events and other important reminders. We hope to see you all on campus again soon!

 

  • ACAMIS Soccer - Congratulations to our varsity soccer teams, returning from a successful ACAMIS tournament in Hong Kong last weekend. The girls team captured 3rd place and the boys team finished 2nd! Hats off to all our players and coaches for a great season!
  • Lower School Assembly & Spirit Day Friday: Parents are invited to join us Friday afternoon at 2pm for a lower school assembly presented by Grade 5P. Friday is also Stuffed Animal + Greens & Jeans Spirit Day presented by LS STUCO. Students can bring their favorite stuffed animal to school with them and wear their green activity shirts & jeans instead of the regular uniform. Don’t have a favorite stuffed animal? The Animal Action Club is continuing to sell stuffed animals for 100RMB to raise funds to send local homeless animals to receive veterinary care.
  • Bagel Sales Friday Morning! PAFA will be selling bagels to raise funds for the end-of-year graduation party on Friday, April 28 @ 7:30am in the cafeteria. Bring 20RMB and get your day started off right with your bagel of choice.
  • School Holiday – May 1: A quick reminder that next Monday is a school holiday.

Parent Events Today & Tomorrow

 

 

Dear Families and Friends,

 

We’d like to remind you of two exciting events that you’re all invited to join us for today and tomorrow:

 

  • Erma Anderson – Parent Session: This week, international math consultant Erma Anderson is on campus to work with SCIS Pudong teachers. Erma is a recognized expert in how math teaching needs to change from a procedural understanding of steps and equations to a more developed conceptual understanding of math topics. The conceptual understanding of math is the foundation of the PYP, MYP and DP math program. In addition to working with our teachers, Erma will be offering a parent presentation on Wednesday April 19th, 2:00pm-3:00pm. We invite you all parents to join us for this informative session.
  • Paths to University Success Workshop @ The Emerald – This Thursday, April 20 is our first in a series of university workshops that all parents are invited to attend. This week’s topic is: University Admissions in USA and Canada. Join us from 6:30pm-7:30pm at the Emerald Club Restaurant. Summer Kids Camp

SUMMER KIDS CAMP

 

 Because FUN doesn’t need to take a summer break!

 Preschool – Grade 5  //  June 19 – July 14, 2017

 

 Early Bird Registration now available until May 15

 

SCIS Pudong Campus is excited to offer a specialized summer camp program consisting of developmentally appropriate activities, designed with the whole child in mind. Our summer camp program is a non-academic, thematic program filled with action packed fun for all ages.

 

Our program includes games, sports, outdoor exploration, water activities, field trips, art, music & movement, drama, Mandarin language/culture fun, and free play. Children will be provided with various opportunities to work together, play, and have fun with their friends!

 

Students from the Shanghai community, who will have completed Preschool through Grade 5 during the 2016-2017school year, are welcome to enroll (Date of birth ranging from June 19, 2014 through November 1, 2005).

 

The program will run from June 19 - July 14, with flexible weekly enrollment options for families with limited availability or travel plans. Both full-day and half-day enrollment options include lunch service and all summer camp activity costs.

Weekly thematic experiences include, but not limited to:

 

  • Week 1 (June 19 – 23): Little Explorers – This is for the adventurous camper! During this week, campers will explore our world and beyond through a variety of activities and hands-on investigations. Campers will embark on a weeklong adventure in creativity, immersed in inventive thinking and fostering ingenuity.
  • Week 2 (June 26 – June 30): Little Artists – This is for the creative camper! During this week, campers will create lasting memories while exploring all different kinds of mixed media, including crafts, visual art, and music/movement. Campers will have the opportunity to create their own works of art through a variety of art mediums.
  • Week 3 (July 3 – 7): Little Imagineers – This is for the imaginative camper! During this week, campers will engineer their own world through imagination and fantasy. Campers will enter a space filled with creative ideas, fun materials, and limitless possibilities and engineer a fun all of their own.
  • Week 4 (July 10 – 14): Little Chefs – This is for the hungry camper! During this week, campers will quench their appetite for cooking while exploring some of their favorite recipes. Campers will learn the basics of food preparation, cooking and baking techniques, healthy eating, but most of all, they’ll learn how to create and enjoy great food.
